What We Do

Grow Leaders and Strengthen Communities

Our mission is to grow leaders in order to build strong communities. We envision communities across the Pittsburgh region, and ultimately across the world, in which all kinds of people are connected and engaged in creating a better quality of life.

Following our 2015-20 strategic plan, Coro is building 5-year partnerships with five economically vulnerable communities where people are taking action to make change. We provide developmental and networking opportunities for residents who are tackling tough challenges and seeking support to become more effective collaborators. Partner Communities also serve as a “proving ground” for young professionals seeking intensive learning opportunities by leading collaborative change efforts.

Coro programs are rooted in a basic belief that building connections among people and organizations is the foundation for solving problems and creating positive change in communities. Coro participants interact and learn with many different kinds of people at all levels and in all sectors of the community.

Coro provides a unique opportunity for people interested in acquiring leadership skills through hands-on experience in collaborating to solve problems in economic development, education, housing, transportation, health, environment, entrepreneurship, labor, government, politics and community organizing. By working on timely and relevant issues that require collaborative leadership, participants hone the skills for mobilizing stakeholders across different social, organizational, and cultural environments.
