Selection Day 2013 Recap

March 15, 2013

On March 9th a hundred people gathered at CAPA High School in Downtown Pittsburgh for Selection Day, an annual event that brings together regional leaders from all sectors to help Coro select the next class of Coro Fellows.

Thirty six talented and diverse candidates came to Pittsburgh from around the world to compete for the rare opportunity to become a Coro Fellow. Three hundred young people have applied for 66 Coro Fellowship positions available across four Coro locations—Pittsburgh, St. Louis, New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Twelve Coro Fellows will ultimately be selected for the Pittsburgh program.

Forty “judges” from the business, government and nonprofit sectors contributed a full day of service to Coro, observing candidates in a variety of role plays and simulations that tested the ability to think on their feet, adapt quickly to changing circumstances, and operate effectively in situations requiring communication and creativity as well as logical analysis of problems.

In the evening of Selection Day candidates, judges and alumni gathered for a reception co-hosted by The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust to give everyone an opportunity to make personal connections that will continue beyond Selection Day and the Coro Fellows Program.

The next class of Coro Fellows will arrive in Pittsburgh in August to begin their full-time, nine-month, intensive graduate-level training. Unlike any other program offered in Pittsburgh, the Coro Fellows Program provides opportunities for recent college graduates from around the world to explore a variety of professional and leadership opportunities in Pittsburgh while conducting an individual strategic plan for their own growth as leaders.
