After nearly eight years of service to Coro Pittsburgh, Public Allies Pittsburgh site director Misti McKeehen departed to assume the role of Director of PittServes at the University of Pittsburgh. In this role she will focus on creating a culture of service within the University community and continue to support the local community-based organizations of Pittsburgh. Misti’s final day was February 12, 2014. To stay connected please reach out to her at [email protected] or through the PittServes Office.
A note from Misti:
“I feel so fortunate to have had the opportunity to learn and grow during my time with Coro and with Public Allies National Organization. I am not the same person I was when I began as the Program Associate with the Regional Internship Center of SWPA (a previous program of Coro), and I am thankful to the many mentors, peers, and excellent program participants that I have worked with to bring me to this point today. I believe deeply in the values of both Coro and Public Allies National and will continue to live those values through my service to Pitt. Thank you all for allowing me to be part of your journey toward effective civic leadership!”
Jessica Ruffin will succeed Misti as site director for Public Allies. A Pittsburgh native, Jessica earned a BA in Urban Studies from the University of Pittsburgh and an MBA from Chatham University. After completing a year in service through AmeriCorps VISTA, Jessica worked as the Community Impact Director for Amachi Pittsburgh - the region’s only mentoring program committed to serving children and families of the incarcerated. As a member of the leadership team, Jessica assumed a lead role in fund development and management, community partner relations, and staff and volunteer training and evaluation.
Jessica joined the Public Allies Pittsburgh team in 2012 as the Manager of Training and Learning. In this role, Jessica was responsible for developing and implementing the training curriculum for the First Year and Executive Allies program as well as serving as the program manager and coaching the Executive Allies cohort.
A note from Jessica:
“After completing the Coro Pittsburgh Community Problem-Solving Fellowship in 2006, I became a strong advocate for the importance of leadership development and the value of the experiential learning method. I’ve carried many of the tools and relationships that I established during my Fellowship into the various stages of my career. As an AmeriCorps alum, I understand the value of service and am honored to assume the responsibility of ensuring that each Ally engaged by the Pittsburgh site has a fulfilling experience.”
