We're pleased to announce the 2002 Leadership Luncheon Honorary Chair, Lily Kanter. Kanter has spent the past 14 years in business and technology management positions for Microsoft, Deloitte & Touche, and IBM. She started Social Venture Partners in Seattle a model for new philanthropy, and was chosen for the "Time" magazine cover (May 2000) featuring emerging philanthropists.
At the Coro Leadership Luncheon, we will honor the Reverend Cecil Williams and San Francisco Poet Laureate Jan Mirikitani, both of Glide Memorial United Methodist Church in San Francisco, with the Coro Crystal Eagle Award. Welcome
to Coro Northern California! Coro was founded in San
Francisco on October 12, 1942 as a "voyage of discovery"
into how people learn and how this learning can be translated
into ethical, effective participation in our communities
and in our democratic system of self-governance.
Coro
Northern California runs two leadership development
programs, the Fellows
Program in Public Affairs and Exploring
Leadership for youth, in addition to contract programs
and community collaborations. Every day Coro participants
grapple with questions of leadership and effective citizen
participation. Every day Coro graduates use their Coro
training on their jobs and in their volunteer work.
And our communities are richer as a result.
Coro
is building leadership for the future - for strong communities
where individuals have the tools, knowledge, perspective
and power to change lives. Please join us.

The
Fellows Program was launched in San Francisco in 1947
and is a nine-month, full-time, post-graduate experiential
leadership-training program that introduces diverse,
intelligent, and driven public servants to all aspects
of the public affairs arena. Field assignments, site
visits, interviews, and special individual and group
projects prepare Coro Fellows to translate their ideals
into action for improving their own communities. The
1999-2000
Fellows Program Field Placement List
and the 2000-2001
Fellows Program Field Placement List
highlight the diverse organizations and opportunities
the Fellows encounter.
The
2001-2002 Coro Fellows Program Participants began their
leadership-development journey on September 4, 2001,
and will graduate on June 6, 2002. Learn
more about the 2001-02 Fellows by reading their biographies, and
viewing their program calendars.
For more information about the Fellows Program, please
read about the Coro Fellows as featured in the San
Francisco Chronicle .

Launched
in 1998, Exploring Leadership is a summer program for
sixteen rising 11th and 12th graders from San Francisco
who are interested in expanding their leadership skills
by examining community issues and existing public leadership.
The
2001 Exploring Leadership program began on Friday, June
15 and ran through Friday, August 10. Students received
a $1,700 stipend upon completion of the eight-week program.
The
Program
Exploring Leadership begins during the selection process
when candidates identify an issue that affects young
people in San Francisco; much of the training is then
focused on this issue. This year, the Youth Fellows
studied "Youth Rights." Additionally, Exploring Leadership
has five major components: 1) a Yosemite Valley wilderness
camping trip; 2) an issue-based logic study; 3) internships;
4) training and interviews; and 5) a group project centering
on the focus issue.
The
2001 Youth Fellows were given the assignment to create
portfolios of their summer experience - an opportunity
to reflect on what they learned over the summer. Youth
Fellows Amy Moran and Feng Hua Wu share their stories.
