On September 6, Next Leaders Northside attended their first Civic Strategy Session at the Pittsburgh Project. The purpose of the session was for Next Leaders to learn about issues within the community development system in the Northside and to explore ways of collaborating to address challenges in how the system functions to support a high quality of life on the Northside. The session began with a tour and then a panel discussion about issues and best practices in youth development. Will Thompkins and Lauren Pfeiffer, of the Pittsburgh Project, and Keith Murphy, of Bethany House Academy, served on the panel.

One of the goals of Next Leaders Northside is to foster multi-generational leadership through mentoring. Established leaders in the Northside are contributing their experience and wisdom to the next generation of leaders, who, in turn, are realizing the value of mentorship in supporting their own development as leaders.

Future Civic Strategy Sessions will address non-profit management as well as economic and community development. Want to learn more about NEXT Leaders Northside? Contact Khalif Ali at kali@coropittsburgh.org.
