At Coro, we want to connect diverse groups across the city in order to encourage collaboration and ensure that our Coro participants and alumni have access to the greatest network possible.  For our Women in Leadership program (which is currently seeking nominations and applications), this means we are working to create partnerships with women’s organizations in the area to create more avenues for mentoring and post-program leadership opportunities.

The first new partnership that we would like to announce is with Ellevate Pittsburgh (formerly 85 Broads), an organization that provides networking, mentoring, and learning opportunities to women. Like Coro Pittsburgh, Ellevate Pittsburgh is part of a national effort to improve the status of women. We have included some information about Ellevate, which was provided by its Chapter President, Deanna Ferrari Tomaselli.

Their next event, “Be Your Own Brand,” will be held on Tuesday, November 18. A properly established personal brand ensures you maintain a consistent reputation and play a greater role in defining your professional future by opening doors and securing opportunities for you, as you build your career.

Packaging yourself as a personal brand is important, but it’s not easy. Join Kyshira Moffett and Sheryl Johnson as they talk about how to use blogging and LinkedIn to enhance your brand. From their experience building their own personal brands and helping others do the same, you’ll get qualified advice about what works. There will be time for Q&A so you can ask your own questions.

Coro’s Outreach Manager, Sarah Miller, will be in attendance to discuss the Women in Leadership program with those in attendance.

About Ellevate
We believe women are awesome.

We believe the research is clear that companies and the economy perform better when they fully engage women. We believe women are still an under-tapped resource in the business world and in society at large – and that it’s time to change that.

We believe that networking and lifelong learning are keys to business success. And we believe that by providing these capabilities, by working with companies and investors to help them see the opportunity, and by truly investing in women – we can be an active and positive part of that change.

Ellevate is a global professional women’s network dedicated to these beliefs and to the economic engagement of women worldwide. The most expansive and diverse network of its kind, our community is made up of successful, motivated and passionate professional women from various industries and walks of life with one common belief: that investing in themselves and in other women is good business.

Our members are at all stages of their careers: groundbreakers, thought leaders, CEOs, entrepreneurs, board members, and visionaries. They are alumnae and students of some of the world’s leading academic institutions. Some are at the top of their fields, and others are on their way. Thousands of women strong, our community is large and growing by the day.

Networking
Whether you’re a job seeker, business owner, student or investor, there are networking opportunities for every woman who joins. At each speaker series event, we offer time before and after for attendees to spark up conversations and trade business cards. We also periodically host networking-focused events to meet and greet the diverse members in our chapter, including those in the finance, health care, energy, agency, education, technology and consumer goods sectors, to name a few. Our members are given the opportunity to connect with each other based on mutual interests and goals, as well as leverage member knowledge.

Mentorship Program
In fall 2013, Ellevate Pittsburgh launched a first-of-its kind, free mentorship program to all subscribing members. This program fosters an environment for participants to learn, grow and connect with some of the region’s top women. Mentees are matched with a senior woman mentor who assists in accelerating their career goals and needs. Mentees receive practical, applicable and relevant guidance and resources to overcome hurdles, perform better at work and feel more confident doing so. Not to mention, our mentors are learning from the mentees! In addition to the one-on-one match, we host exclusive monthly social events with all participating mentors and mentees. It’s a great way to expand your network by meeting women in the region who are trailblazers in their fields.

Career-Enhancing Events
Through our best-in-class events, we bring our members together to discuss cutting-edge business and social trends with distinguished luminaries from different fields. We cover a variety of topics that our members are interested in and can benefit from, including personal branding, finance and self-defense. In addition, members are invited to be a featured speaker at a local event, where they can share professional passions, skills or wisdom with like-minded women.

Giving Back
Each year, Ellevate Pittsburgh is committed to helping one local charity. In 2014, our charity of choice is Special Spaces Pittsburgh Metro, a nonprofit that designs and creates dream bedrooms for critically ill children in the region. After raising more than $2,000 at our Martini Making Competition Fundraiser, we had the opportunity to redo a bedroom for a local child in need. From fundraising to hands-on work, all of our members can help give back to the community each year.
